There are many ways to become a teacher in Scotland, and a teaching career really is an option for many people out there. This short blog covers some of the ways you can get into teaching in Scotland, and how to access the Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in Primary or Secondary via the Initial Teacher Education (ITE) qualification.

Typically, those who are considering a career in teaching in Scotland will gain their ITE qualification through either a four-year undergraduate degree course or through a one-year postgraduate Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). So, for example, you could become a primary school teacher by doing a full degree in that area such as a four-year BA Honours in Primary Education. Or, you may already have a degree in Physics for example, and then you could become a Physics and Science Teacher by simply adding a one-year PGDE in Secondary Education on to your existing Science degree.
