STEM Saturdays

Raising attainment and inspiring futures in STEM for primary learners

For many years now, The Education Academy Scotland has not just offered scholarships for learners in Scotland, but has completely redefined what they are and who they are for.  Now, in a unique and innovative partnership with the team at My Science Club, we continue to broaden our pioneering scholarship programme with a new and exciting offer- this time, targeted exclusively for primary learners.

STEM Saturdays is a new and exciting scholarship for upper primary learners (P6 & 7) which provides a fully funded opportunity to enhance their STEM skills.  Through a series of six hands-on practical sessions, students will work alongside specialist and prominent STEM educators and industry STEM ambassadors, gaining valuable insights and experience in STEM.  This pioneering programme is designed to not just raise current attainment in school for our scholars - specifically in Maths - but also to inspire and engage them for future participation and success in STEM study and careers.

The programme will run for six consecutive Saturday morning sessions in the Saunders Centre at The Glasgow Academy, 26th February to 29th March 2025, 10:00 to 11:30.

Scholars will be selected via an application process which is set out below.  No specific demographic is being targeted, this is an opportunity for any young person in P6/7 to experience hands-on, engaging and fun STEM activities with Scotland's premier tutoring school.

STEM Saturdays Primary

Primary science and wider STEM is vital for children because it sparks curiosity, fosters critical thinking, and builds a foundation for problem-solving skills that are essential not just for understanding the world around them, but for shaping the innovators and thinkers of tomorrow.

Graeme Rough, Head of Centre, TEAS

The Education Academy Scotland is offering 20 STEM Saturday Scholarships for young people in Glasgow and The West.  This programme will support primary 6 and 7 learners to develop their STEM knowledge and problem solving skills, whilst aligning the themes and topics covered to real work careers and applications.  Each session will cover a specific theme which will be broadened into wider STEM contexts and with a natural development of the associated core maths skills.

STEM Saturday Scholars will receive a fully funded educational support programme which is delivered by a fully qualified and prominent primary teacher, skilled in the STEM areas of our CfE curriculum.  STEM Ambassadors from local and international employers will also support each session to provide context and relevance to the themes and how they are applied in their careers and beyond the classroom.
