The Ignite Scholarship

The Gas Certification Company (GCC) is proud and excited to launch The Ignite Scholarship, developed in partnership with The Education Academy Scotland (TEAS).
The Ignite Scholarship is a pioneering programme, providing education and career enhancement opportunities for young people in South Lanarkshire and neighbouring areas to access a rewarding career in the gas engineering sector. The opportunity has two core offers:
- a complete programme of educational support from TEAS's fully qualified teachers - specifically to attain the two key "gateway qualifications" to the industry: National 5 Maths and Physics. With a series of 5 Weekly Lessons and 1 Grade Booster Day for each subject via Saturday morning sessions in GCC's modern classrooms across January to March in 2026, Ignite Scholars will be given the best possible chance of success in their SQA exams.
- delivery of meaningful, developmental and sought-after industrial experience in the gas engineering sector with hands-on skills development activities led by GCC's talented and skilled trainers at their state of the art training workshops, covering: soldering, gas safety testing, programming, electrical skills and other key practical abilities that sector employers look for in new recruits. These workshops will take place after each Saturday morning Physics/Maths class across January to March in 2026.

In addition to the core offers above, Ignite Scholars will also:
- learn more about the range of apprenticeship opportunities available to them locally and nationally
- be given CV, interview and employability guidance
- understand the key requirements/expectations that employers and colleges have for new apprentices
- build their self-confidence and meet new peers and adults to enhance their communication and employability skills.
It is hoped that the young people who complete the scholarship will be left not just with the necessary qualifications, skills and knowledge to enter the industry, but that they will be fully inspired and encouraged to learn and work in the gas engineering and its related disciplines.
All of the classes and workshops for The Ignite Scholarship will take place at GCC Headquarters, Third Road Blantyre Industrial Estate, Blantyre, Glasgow, G72 0UP

"Not enough young people are entering our sector and The Gas Certification Company has acted to create its own bespoke and pioneering solution, meeting the needs of the industry and its employers, as also detailed by Scottish Government who aim to build the capacity of the education and training system to deliver excellent STEM learning so that employers have access to the workforce they need”
